Note to Amb. Dr. Haissam Bou-Said from Amnesty: Where is Jamal Khashoggi?

Dear Amb. Dr. Haissam Bou-Said,

Last week, while on a trip in Turkey, Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi went into the Saudi consulate in Turkey to get some paperwork and never came out. Jamal Khashoggi left Saudi Arabia last year to the United States to avoid persecution amid a wave of arrests in the country. Turkish authorities reported that he was assassinated inside the consulate.

Jamal’s disappearance comes at a time when the Saudi Arabian government has intensified its crackdown on anyone who has spoken up for human rights or against the government. Jamal believed in his voice and he likened his silence to betrayal.

Today please raise your voice for Jamal and demand the Saudi government reveal his fate and whereabouts immediately.

In an article Jamal wrote for the Washington post almost a year ago he stated “It was painful for me several years ago when several friends were arrested. I said nothing. I didn’t want to lose my job or my freedom. I worried about my family. I have made a different choice now. I have left my home, my family and my job, and I am raising my voice. To do otherwise would betray those who languish in prison. I can speak when so many cannot.” For Saudi Arabian activists around the world, the disappearance of Jamal means that the hope of a safe place, even outside of the country, is diminishing.

The world needs to know what happened to Jamal Khashoggi. Your voice is needed to make this happen. Write to the Saudi Government now and ask them – where is Jamal and what happened to him?

 Thank you
